I forgot to mention that I added four felt pads on the underside of the board. It made the board less prone to slip as well protects the surface.

I bought this board mostly to create my own opinion of the material and the feeling of playing on a smaller board.
To my big delight, it's made of the same wood as my big shogi board (55 mm) which I imported from Japan. Same great finish and warm glow that my shogi board have.
This 9x9 board is perfect for practicing and also for playing against others. I bought two shin kaya boards and gave the second board to my parents. I also gave them 41 black and 40 white 21,5x9mm glass stones to play with.
It is a perfect board for beginners as well for more experienced players. A good price / performance ratio.
